Aprepitant
medication Under reviewA substance P/neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor antagonist used to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
Research summary
Human research on aprepitant is extensive but almost entirely focused on patients receiving emetogenic chemotherapy or undergoing surgery, and on its pharmacokinetics and formulation comparisons in healthy volunteers. Healthy-subject trials primarily assess bioequivalence, tolerability, and safety rather than performance or wellness benefits. The evidence consistently supports aprepitant as a safe and effective component of antiemetic regimens for preventing chemotherapy-induced and postoperative nausea and vomiting, with large randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses demonstrating strong efficacy and acceptable safety profiles. In healthy adults, short-term exposure in pharmacokinetic and formulation studies shows good tolerability, but there is no evidence supporting any performance, cognitive, metabolic, or longevity benefits for healthy people.
